A cushioned court system is a playing surface made from acrylic or rubberized material designed to absorb impact and reduce strain on joints during play.
Cushioned court systems feature engineered acrylic or rubberized playing surfaces that sit atop a supportive base layer. Unlike hard concrete or wooden courts, these surfaces are designed to absorb and dissipate the force generated when players move, stop, and change direction during play.
The primary benefit is injury reduction. Joint strain in the knees, ankles, and hips decreases noticeably on a cushioned surface compared to harder alternatives. Players notice less impact on their feet and legs, particularly during rapid directional changes and lateral movement, which are constant in pickleball. This makes cushioned systems especially valuable for recreational players and those returning to sport after injury.
Most modern indoor pickleball facilities in the Klang Valley have adopted cushioned surfaces as standard. The rubberized or acrylic compounds used are durable enough to withstand daily heavy use while maintaining their shock-absorbing properties over time. Installation requires a prepared subfloor, which is why these systems are most common in purpose-built or newly renovated facilities rather than converted spaces.
Maintenance involves regular cleaning and occasional resurfacing to extend the lifespan and preserve ball consistency and player safety.
